Back pain with other lower body conditions: Hip, Knee & Ankle pain.

Back pain is so commonly associated with dysfunctions in the lower body joints too, the ankle, the knee’s and the hips. Unfortunately, modern living means that for many of us, these joints are not functioning a their best. This frequently poses challenges to our lower back, meaning it has to do more work than if those joints were not dysfunctional.

In this context of back pain, those dysfunctional joints may not actually be painful or injured in themselves. Only functioning poorly. But what happens when those joints, that aren’t working properly, become injured too, while we have back pain?

This eventuality is something that plagues many suffering from longer standing back pain. The real challenge is that the pain in the injured limbs forms a barrier to the rehab process for the lower back. This can create a real sense of helplessness and even progress to a level of depression as the control over your own health and wellbeing seems to be slipping from your grasp.

In this video we talk about the knees, hips and ankles, and how injuries in these areas can impact your lower back recovery. It’s not all doom and gloom though, mastering and progressing some of these exercises in the Back In Shape program will help not only your back – obviously – but also your lower body joints.

Begin by finding the areas and ranges of motion with the least pain and then work from there. It does take time, and it takes more time if you’ve a co-occurring injury than if you don’t have one, but before you know it you’ll be back on track.

Long term both your knee, hip or ankle, as well as your lower back will thank you!
